Learning about why the layout of a book is important helped when designing each page of my design manifesto. I learnt that its not necessary to fill each page with text and images, getting rid of all the negative space and that sometimes less is more. The presentation was useful as it gave me different authors and books to look at including Ellen Lupton – Thinking with top and OK-RM disobedient bodies. Learning to space my text and images will help make my book stand out.
Above, I did my own research on different layouts on book pages. Looking at ways I could split my images and give the pages a more interesting look. I specifically liked the diamond cut out images above. I think it looks quite abstract and draws the reader in. I also like how the texts go across the pages and overlap onto the next page. Also the pages aren’t filled with too much information. Some pages include just images and the rest have text but not too much to crowd the page. Doing this research was beneficial for me because I was able to then experiment with the photos I had, cutting them up into different shapes and placing them onto the page.

I decided to change each page with a slightly different layout, I kept the image size the same but on some pages I included more than one image. I also included a bit of text. However there is a lot I would change. I think creating more space on the page with images would look better as the page can seem overcrowded. Also given more time I would change the size of the image and have less text on the page. Its quite a lot to read. Therefore I would split it up and use different fonts to create different effects. I would also like to incorporate text that overlaps onto the next page. I think in terms of my theme it doesn’t really fit as it looks too neat and not expressive or abstract.
