To begin making my moving image I used Illustrator. I also looked back to the storyboard I had previously made which I stated was very important. I looked at the colours and shapes and selected what I felt would work best for my moving image. I used quite geometric shapes because I felt like they looked best in terms of meditation. Its almost hypnotising seeing the shapes gradually become bigger and have a variety of different colours and shades included. The process of making the moving image was long and I found myself having to go back and edit images so that it transitioned correctly when I next put it together.
I found it challenging putting together a long moving image as it required a lot of patience and i made many mistakes. If one picture needed to be edited, the whole chain of the moving image would be disrupted and so I would find myself having to start all over again. Although this was frustrating it also was encouraging because it showed me that the end result would later be much better. I began with geometric shapes and then became more free with the shapes and colours because I wanted it to represent when you begin meditation vs when you end.
Therefore, the previous research I did for meditation was also just as important for my moving image as it was for the book that I created. I wanted to show how to begin with meditation your’e quite tense and its quite difficult to loosen up. However once you get the hang of it you find that its easier than you thought and naturally you begin to flow. It was important to represent the research I did, because if I just made a moving image with no context it would be pointless.
I wanted this moving image to be quite trance like and to make you feel like your’e meditating for a short while. To ensure that people felt that this was effective I asked people what they thought of the images and how it looked because feedback for this project was important. Many people thought it was quite relaxing and almost therapeutic to see the shapes begin to expand and also they liked how the colours in the moving image were gathered from the survey response.
Using Illustrator was the best decision that I made because I think it gave it a more meditative feel to it. You could switch the lights off and the colours from the images alone could make you feel calmer. I was able to use a variety of tools and expand my knowledge when it came to Illustrator but also got the chance to combine work on my laptop and work on my phone. Using both I was able to create my moving image as I would transfer my images onto my phone to then put it onto stop motion.
