Indesign (FMP)

I chose to use Indesign to put my book together and lay it out digitally. The process of doing this was quite simple because I had already written out my book it was now a matter of laying it out and figuring out how I would place the text and images on each page. I wanted this book to be quite educational and because much of the research I previously did is essential to contributing to how to help students, I knew that I had to include all of it. Ultimately that was the main challenge. I wanted to include all my writing but also didn’t want the pages to look so cramped up to where the page is so busy that you don’t want to continue reading. However I also wanted to keep my target audience in mind and because they are university students, I didn’t want to include more illustrations than text because I felt like reading becomes a very important part of your life as you grow up and the way that my audience is going to gain the knowledge of meditation is more through the reading than the illustrations.

I still wanted to keep it fun as well so I made sure to include my illustrations on almost every page. To solve the problem of having too much text, I ended up having to cut down my word count when I previously wrote everything out. It was difficult choosing what bits to cut out but because I wanted it to be more educational than personal so I just cut out the writing that I felt was too personal and wasn’t necessary. Once I had cut down the word count I then faced the problem of having to create a balance between the text and the illustrations. To help solve this problem, I would always alter the image by making it smaller or bigger, or move it around the page and then proceed to print it off to make the comparison and come to the conclusion of where I would want the text or image to go and also got a chance to judge what it would look like.
