When using Illustrator to create my illustrations for my book, I was faced with many problems such as having to constantly make sure that the images had a similar style as if I placed 6 illustrations that all had a different style into one book, they would look out of place and this could disturb the whole flow of the book. If I was going to use bold colours for one drawing, I wanted to make sure that each image carried the same amount of energy throughout the book. I knew that I could end up making the mistake of using the same colour for each drawing and so to stop this from becoming a problem, I started with a new pallet each time. For example if I done one drawing that consisted on quite bold and warm colours, for my next drawing I would start it with bold and cold colours. This way there would be a perfect contrast. I also had to make sure that the size of each illustration was suitable for the book page. I didn’t want to go through the trouble of having an image that was too big or too small in comparison to the the others. I found that using illustrator helped improve my software skills. To begin with my tree illustration, it took me a long time to complete, however with each drawing I found it got easier to do and I was able to manage my time much better. It became quite a fast process where I was still able to create good quality illustrations within a shorter amount of time.
Using Illustrator was helpful because it saved the time of having to sketch up perfectly detailed drawings once more and then scan them onto a computer and print off. Creating them on illustrator looked more professional and when they printed off the colour came through much better. I liked the fact that with each image I was able to set myself a new challenge of trying to give each image its own life but still keep them all in a similar style. Digitally its much easier to correct the mistakes that you have made as well which I found easier than having to start all over again with a drawing. I found the process of creating my illustrations for the book the easiest part and thoroughly enjoyed it.
