hand drawn illustrations (FMP)

Once I knew that I was going to use illustrator as the software to create the illustrations for both my moving image and my book, I began to sketch out the actual images that I would want to place in my book. I think its important to have a clear idea of the illustrations that will be in my book and so they needed to be as detailed as I could make them so that later when I would be using illustrator to create my final images it would be a much easier and faster process.

Once I had drawn out an idea of what I wanted the images to look like, I immediately knew that the illustrations in the book couldn’t be hand drawn because it wouldn’t look as clean and sharp if it was hand drawn. Therefore it was essential for me to draw out the different images I wanted to include because not only did it give me a good, clear idea of the illustrations to include but also confirmed that I was going to use illustrator to create them. It was good practise to also see what colours would look good with the image and overall a good rough guide of what I would create later on illustrator.

I liked that I was able to create an illustration for almost every page and how it linked to the topic of what I was discussing. I didn’t want the image to be too distracting and take your attention away from the writing as well which is why it was important to draw it out first and see exactly where it would look best on the page and also how big or small I should make it. The sketches I made were quite rough so to improve them I think I would add more detail and colour to really make it stand out and more a more realistic image of what I was going to create.
