Geoff balls workshop + Netting

The Geoffs Balls workshop helped me to have sketches of a few different ways to package products. It was a creative way of making me think outside of the box and try some more unusual packaging and also made me realise that remembering how the client would hold the packaging is equally as important as the design on the packaging. It was interesting to use the materials that we found around ravensbourne and was a challenge in terms of trying to come up with more than one idea. Before this workshop, I was looking at quite traditional packaging but once I had done this workshop I realised it would be much more exciting to do something different with unusual materials.

Creating our own designs on Illustrator was also useful. We had to paste different designs onto traditional netting on illustrator. It was useful to gain these skills for when it would come to making our netting, putting it together but also printing off the designs we had. Through doing this, I found that I didn’t like the packaging and netting that many people were using. This was the traditional box and I also didn’t like printing off designs onto the packaging because I felt like it didn’t look organic and lost the look that the client wanted the brand to represent. Therefore after this workshop I decided to not focus the designs on Illustrator but instead if I was to add a design onto the packaging I would create illustrations by hand to make it look more natural.
