The drawing workshop that we did was helpful to me because it allowed me to become more free and to view what I’m drawing from a different perspective. Having to draw a shape that represents a certain emotion was challenging at first because I wanted to constantly change what I had drawn because I felt like it wasn’t good enough or that it looked to messy, but I realised that the whole point of the workshop was to be expressive and take advantage of the freedom of drawing the shapes. There wasn’t a specific way to draw the shapes and nothing was right or wrong. Also not having the chance to think but just drawing what you feel was also interesting as it showed me that you can create some interesting and beautiful illustrations without putting too much thought into it. It was also a good opportunity to see how other students create their shapes when we had to swap books and add to each others illustrations. I also enjoyed creating a small front cover of a magazine with a partner and getting to see other peoples small books based on the theme ‘under the sea’. Having to think on the spot helped me with my timing skills as we didn’t have long to think of ideas and also helped me to understand that illustrations are not just about creating perfect lines or drawings but being experimental with what you create.
