We talked through some facts about Bauhaus which helped to give me a better idea of what Bauhaus was and also looked at the different events that took place within the Bauhaus. To help with our research we watched a few different videos, adverts and music videos to show movement. I particularly liked the Ballet video. I thought it was interesting to see the costumes, different shapes and colours to help give us some inspiration. Watching these videos was useful for when we later created our costume.
When creating the costume we discussed what sort of shape we would go for and once discussing it as a group we decided to go for a spiral shape which was inspired by what we had just seen in the triadic ballet. We wanted the costume to wrap around the whole body and hold itself up almost like a spring. To begin we drew the outline with a pencil onto the cardboard and began cutting it with a stately knife. The challenge we faced was to make sure that the cardboard wasn’t cut too thick as it wouldn’t spring up, but also to make sure it wasn’t too thin that it would snap.

Working as a team, half of the group created prototypes which helped us come to the realisation that it needed to be thin lines. The other half, including me began to cut and create the final piece.

The end result was that the costume ended up collapsing and didn’t spring up, however it wrapped around the body really well and still had a unique and impressive style. We decided to add the multicoloured circles to make it fit the Bauhaus theme a bit more and also to make it more attractive to look at.
