6 Photos

I was given the task to take six photographs that narrated something similar / told a story through the image. I decided to choose loneliness for my theme and took different pictures of isolated areas with a low lighting. I wanted to achieve an airy effect to create a lonely and haunting atmosphere. I also didn’t want to focus on one specific place and wanted to incorporate both man made and nature within the picture to reflect how loneliness is everywhere. I found this task good because I was given the freedom to experiment with different photos and it helped me to understand how every picture can translate something. I think to improve I could have taken pictures from different viewpoints.I took a picture of this environment because I liked how abandoned it looked. Usually its filled with life and people hanging around however I was lucky enough to catch no one around. I like how the colours are reflecting off of the steel chairs and how it looks quite gloomy and airy. The lights reflect onto the leaves, creating a ghostly effect. I like how on one side of the frame its quite lit up and the other side there is complete darkness, yet they both portray loneliness. This was taken from a low viewpoint, placing my phone on the ground looking straight ahead. I think the leaves scattered over the floor creates a sense of abandonment. I like how it looks like a pathway towards the light, almost showing an escape to the loneliness.I thought the lighting of this picture was the most interesting part, its quite dim and contrasts with the bright warm colours in the train station. This picture was taken straight after I got off the train so that I could capture an isolated area. If I had waited any longer this picture would’ve been different and lacked the narrative that I wanted.I wasn’t that happy with this picture however I did like how there is light towards the camera and further out there is darkness. I liked the contrast between the tones which is why I chose to use this picture.I liked that I was able to capture the movement of the bus at the right of the picture you can see a small shadow of a figure. I thought that was interesting because I hadn’t incorporated people any figures into the other pictures.I uploaded my pictures onto pallet to receive some feedback from others. I always find the feedback I get back from padlet to be very useful as it tells me what I’ve don’t well and what other people think I can improve. I can then take on any criticism I’ve received and use it to better my next piece of work.
