The task that was given was to take a few ‘bad photos’ and describe what we think make them weak images. The purpose of this task was to understand that sometimes we create images and pieces of work that we don’t believe have any value. However a lot of the work produced can contain value. Overall, I found this task quite straightforward however it is difficult to take a bad photograph because what you consider to be good or bad is subjective. To begin I took pictures of my surroundings while I was walking to create a blurry and out of focus image, I also put my finger near the camera to create an unclear image where the subject isn’t clear. I also wanted to take a simple picture which wasn’t distorted or out of focus but just not interesting. I noticed that perception began to change towards the end of the task and images that I found bad were beginning to look more appealing. The out of focus and blurred images create an energetic atmosphere which makes the photo exciting. Also capturing pictures of people rushing around also creates movement and tells a story. I learnt that a picture can tell a person a series of different stories as its up for personal interpretation. Through this task I was able to appreciate different types of photography and also view photographs from a different perspective. With many of the Photos taken, people seemed to be fascinated by the chaotic atmosphere and also the distortion of one image. Before this project, I would’ve neglected the following pictures, however my view has now changed. I enjoyed this task because it allowed me to be as expressive as I wanted to be. Nothing was considered wrong or right, instead we got to create the images we wanted to.
