Lens based media (Good photographs)

We were looking at natural lighting and what makes a good picture, how shadows cast on faces and certain objects, angles and lighting can create a very interesting image. The task we were given was to take a few pictures using our cameras with natural and artificial lighting. Comparing this to the pictures that were previously taken, there is a dramatic change. I found this task good as with each photograph I was able to see the progress of my photography, with each picture I was focusing on a different element. For example the lighting, the composition, the colours etc. My overall judgement of my work is that I was successfully able to capture a range of different images both in and out of focus and experiment with different  lighting and techniques of taking photographs. Also I was pushed to take photographs from different angles and view points. However if given more time, I would have liked to capture more pictures of natural lighting from high and low viewpoints to see the contrast and how it affects a composition. I would also focus on shadows on faces from natural light more as well. To try and experiment with the range of different shapes and shades that could be created through light. However overall the time management for this task was much better than my previous tasks and so I found it easier to gather a variety of pictures I was pleased with.IMG_0425This picture above was interesting to me because the lighting creates quite a bright colour on to his face, which leaves him with a shadow cast on the side of his face. I also think the colours in the photograph are really complimentary. For example the bright red colour of the ketchup and the lightly tinted green in the right hand corner of the screen. I also was particularly fond of the view point, as although its a simple view point, you’re still able to see quite a lot within the composition. Overall this picture is quite raw and isn’t complicated.IMG_0408An interesting contrast of dark and light tones make the figure almost get lost in the picture. At first this was a mistake as I felt that you couldn’t see much however once I looked at it more I found I was more pleased with it and found small details that kept me interested. For example, the harsh lines of bright red on the dark floor really stand out because of the dark colours, the red light also creates a colourful image as it reflects onto the figure. It reminds me of a sinister picture because of the colours. I also liked the viewpoint of this, how I only captured his body and hands instead of a simple viewpoint of the figure standing by the red counter.IMG_0416The way this image is out of focus on the figure but really focuses on the light emitted reflects the importance of light. It lights the whole picture up and also although its not the light being reflected onto his face, it can be seen as the main source of light. I also like how its a deep blue colours compliment his skin tone with the red chair he’s sitting on.IMG_0401I liked the different colours that this light contained and how it would reflect perfectly onto the black tyre which lets you see the texture of the tyre. I also like how the light at the back is out of focus and the rest of the background is quite blurred which makes the light the main subject.IMG_0415This picture is similar to the one that was previously taken, I wanted to see if the different colours could create a different effect, i found that it looks the same but the colour has changed, although the light around him has dimmed quite a bit.
