I have never really used a professional camera before so this session was very useful to me as I gained different skills and learnt how to capture a professional picture depending on the settings on the camera. Learning these techniques was helpful for when it came to creating my final piece for fashion as we were taking pictures outside of our models. I struggled in the beginning to understand what setting the camera should be on. Sometimes I would take a picture and it would come out completely blank. I found that experimenting and making mistakes helped me to understand how the settings and functions on a camera work. I especially liked looking at the shutter speed and trying to catch as much light as possible, which you can see down below.

To take the pictures above, I used a torch light and coloured plastic to create a ripple of different colours. Because we didn’t have a tripod, we had to patiently wait a couple of seconds for the camera to capture the light and create this effect. To create the movement I moved the torch around in several different directions and even tried to outline my body to create a more interesting picture. I was quite impressed with the outcome because it was my first time trying this.
I learnt how to take a picture of someone and to focus on the main subject. The lighting and settings on the camera played a significant role in creating this image.
For the picture below we had to take many different pictures to catch this moment. To begin I found it difficult to get the timing right with the jump but eventually once I got used to holding the camera and capturing different shots, it became easy.
It was very interesting and helpful to learn about the different main function on a camera such as, the Aperture, the shutter speed and the the different the number of ISO can make on a camera. How to catch the light into a picture and also looking at how to capture different types of movement.
Overall I was extremely pleased with the results
