Creating my own mood board

Narrowing down the word ‘descent’ to what I believed it meant, I decided to focus on mental health. I felt that there is a variety of things that can stem from mental health and so it is easy to branch out. When creating my mood board I kept mental health in my mind and began to interpret my idea. The mood board is split into two sections, one of which is what we can see on the outside, how people are able to Mask their emotions, however when you open up the leaflet with balloons on the cover you can see the word ‘Chaos’ across it, portraying how mental health deteriorates. We begin to ask questions forgetting who we are. Questions such as ‘who am I’ are being posed. This mood board was created after we looked at different methods of creating a mood board. Focusing on the fact that it didn’t have to contain words, could be 2D or 3D. Mood boards are used for inspiration, to tell you something without words, to evoke emotions, to create a story of what you’re producing and to simply make people understand without telling them. Overall it should be quite clear.

The activity that we did to understand what mood boards are created for included collecting various items that we found around the university that we believed reminded us of descent, then as a collective we created 3D mood boards based on what had been gathered. Overall the activity taught me not to overthink, make good connections and also understand other people’s interpretations

This is how my mood board turned out. I wanted to keep it colourful and really create a simple image to portray mental health issues. I used different materials such as string, ink, markers, leaflets etc.
